US congress knock Tinubu regime over mass killings, power grabs

US lawmakers have warned Nigerian president Bola Tinubu as he faces mounting accusations of enabling terror and crushing opposition rivals to grab power.

A statement by Von Batten Montague York, L.C. shared on X has intensified debate in Washington over Nigeria’s security crisis and political direction, praising Congressman James for raising concerns on the floor of the United States Congress.

The statement alleged that tens of thousands of Nigerians have been killed by terrorist groups, accusing the government of President Bola Tinubu of failing to adequately respond to the violence and insecurity facing the country.

It further claimed that members of Congress are examining allegations involving corruption, security failures, rule of law concerns, judicial interference, and attempts to weaken political opposition ahead of Nigeria’s next presidential election.

The statement accused the Tinubu administration of seeking to consolidate political power while warning that continued instability in Nigeria could pose wider concerns for U.S. interests in Africa.

It also dismissed claims of a close relationship between President Tinubu and former U.S. President Donald Trump, arguing that political ties would not prevent further scrutiny of Nigeria’s leadership and policies.
