The Lagos State Government has arrested a 56-year-old man, John Ehidreme, for dumping refuse into a drainage channel at No. 18 Oluoga Street, Ikorodu.

The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, warning that indiscriminate waste disposal remained a violation of the state’s environmental laws.

He said, “Earlier today, Mr John Ehidreme, 56, was arrested for illegally dumping refuse into a drainage channel at No. 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu. The Lagos State Government reiterates that indiscriminate waste disposal is a violation of environmental laws, as it obstructs drainage channels, contributes to flooding, and poses significant public health and environmental risks.”

Wahab urged residents to dispose of their waste responsibly and patronise only approved waste management facilities.

The arrest comes amid the state government’s continued crackdown on offenders violating environmental regulations, as authorities intensify enforcement against indiscriminate dumping.
