Yobe: Police impound 67 unregistered vehicles

The Yobe State Police Command has announced that 67 vehicles have been impounded as it intensified its ongoing enforcement exercise against the use of unregistered vehicles, vehicles displaying covered, obscured or faded number plates, and vehicles with tinted glass operating without valid permits.

The offences include operating without valid vehicle registration, displaying covered, obscured or faded number plates, and using tinted glass without the required permit.

The command observed that such violations pose significant security concerns, as criminal elements often exploit unregistered vehicles, concealed number plates, and unauthorised tinted glass to perpetrate crimes, including the transportation of illicit drugs and other criminal activities.

The command said it would not condone any act that undermines public safety or violates existing laws.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, called on all vehicle owners and motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly registered, display clearly visible and authentic number plates, and obtain the necessary permits before using tinted glass where applicable.

He warned that any vehicle found in violation of these regulations would be impounded, while offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police further directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders to sustain the enforcement exercise while ensuring professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights, and zero tolerance for extortion.

The command urged members of the public to comply with all vehicle registration and traffic regulations, noting that the enforcement exercise is aimed at enhancing public safety, preventing crime, and ensuring a secure environment for all residents of Yobe State.

Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies. The command urged residents to “Stay Safe, Stay Security Conscious, and Stay Informed,” according to a statement signed by SP Dungus Abdulkarim, Police Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Police Force, Yobe State Command.
