18-year-old d!es after falling into pond in Kano

An 18-year-old man, Abdullahi Aminu, has tragically lost his life after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in the Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a swift deployment of rescue personnel after an urgent distress call was logged at approximately 3:28 p.m. by the victim’s father, Aminu Lawan.

Confirming the details of the tragedy, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, outlined the sequence of events leading to the recovery operation:

“Upon receiving the report, Fire Service personnel from the Danbatta fire station immediately mobilised to the scene.”

First responders retrieved the young man from the water in an unconscious state, but emergency efforts were unable to revive him, and he was subsequently pronounced dead. Following standard procedures, officials from the Fire Service formally handed over the body to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for necessary administrative and burial arrangements.

In response to the tragedy, state emergency authorities extended their condolences while issuing a timely safety advisory to residents regarding open water bodies:

“The Kano State Fire Service sympathises with the family of the deceased and urges members of the public to exercise extreme caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during this period.”
