2027: Group seeks dissolution of APC SWC in Abia amid internal crisis

Reality Organisation, an Abia-based political group, has petitioned the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to dissolve the party’s State Working Committee in Abia State.

The organisation accused the Chijioke Chukwu-led leadership of poor judgement, selective application of party discipline and failure to unite members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Its demand was contained in a strongly worded statement made available to The Eagle Online on Monday.

The reaction followed the recent decision of the Abia APC State Working Committee to withdraw its earlier threat of disciplinary action against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and other party members.

Reality Organisation described the development as a face-saving move rather than genuine reconciliation.

According to the organisation, the State Working Committee created an unnecessary political crisis by threatening disciplinary action and issuing ultimatums before eventually withdrawing the position.

The organisation argued that the controversy began after Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, gave his assessment during a television interview on the chances of Governor Alex Otti securing re-election in 2027.

Reality Organisation maintained that Kalu’s comments did not amount to an anti-party offence, stressing that giving a political assessment about an election outcome should not be interpreted as endorsing another political party or candidate.

It also rejected the allegation that Kalu’s comments constituted support for Governor Otti, noting that when asked about an alleged alliance between the APC and the governor, the senator reportedly denied the existence of such an arrangement.

The organisation accused Chijioke Chukwu and the State Working Committee of lacking the neutrality and political maturity required to manage the different interests within the Abia APC.

It said the chairman’s handling of the controversy raised questions about his ability to build unity within the party as the 2027 elections approach.

According to Reality Organisation, effective party leadership requires consultation, fairness, maturity and consistency in the application of disciplinary measures.

The group further accused the State Working Committee of applying party discipline selectively, alleging that some political figures associated with other tendencies within the Abia APC had made statements or taken positions that deserved similar scrutiny.

It specifically referenced Senator Emma Nwaka, Rt. Hon. Christopher Enweremadu and Prof. ACB Agbazuere, while also pointing to recent comments by Hon. Benjamin Kalu in which he praised Governor Alex Otti at an event in Umuahia.

Reality Organisation questioned why the State Working Committee allegedly did not issue similar threats or disciplinary measures in those instances.

The organisation argued that party discipline should apply equally to all members and should not be used as a tool to target perceived political opponents.

It therefore urged the APC National Working Committee to intervene in the affairs of the Abia State chapter and dissolve the current State Working Committee.

The group said the demand became necessary because, in its assessment, the present leadership had failed to demonstrate the impartiality and unity required to prepare the party for the 2027 political contest.

Reality Organisation also announced plans to convene a meeting in October to review developments within the Abia APC.

According to the organisation, the meeting will examine the political situation in the state and determine what leadership direction its members and supporters should take going forward.

The group said the meeting would produce decisions concerning the leadership it believes is required to protect the interests of party members who have lost confidence in the current State Working Committee.

Reality Organisation stressed that its criticism of the Abia APC leadership should not be interpreted as rejection of the APC itself.

The organisation said it remains committed to the party and its success but would not equate loyalty to the APC with unconditional support for an individual state chairman.

It maintained that its loyalty is to the party, its constitution, its members and its principles.

The organisation concluded by reiterating that it had lost confidence in the Chijioke Chukwu-led State Working Committee and called on the APC National Working Committee to take action before internal disagreements further affect the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
