Chelsea Snaps Up La Liga Defender Pep Chavarria In Massive Long Term Deal

Chelsea has secured the acquisition of Spanish left-back Pep Chavarria from La Liga outfit Rayo Vallecano.

The 28-year-old defender has committed to a contract running through 2031 and will commence training at the club’s Cobham facility ahead of the upcoming 2026/27 season.

Chavarria conveyed enthusiasm regarding the transfer, characterising the move as fulfilling a career ambition to represent one of global football’s elite institutions.

He acknowledged the magnitude of the opportunity whilst pledging dedication to contributing toward team success.

Chavarria’s footballing trajectory commenced at hometown side UE Figueres competing in Spain’s fourth division before relocating to UE Olot in 2018, where he rapidly became a consistent performer.

His contributions across 52 appearances at Olot prompted a transfer to Real Zaragoza in August 2020, initiating his professional career debut that September in a fixture against Las Palmas.

He subsequently progressed to La Liga upon joining Rayo Vallecano in August 2022, establishing himself as a regular squad member across four consecutive seasons.

During the preceding campaign, Chavarria accumulated 44 appearances as Rayo achieved successive eighth-place La Liga finishes and advanced to the UEFA Conference League final, where a narrow defeat to Crystal Palace concluded their continental journey.

Chelsea cited this period of established performance and European participation as context for the acquisition.
