Ogun Government Moves to Protect Workers Health

The wellness of public sector employees fundamentally influences public service effectiveness, with a healthy workforce better positioned to execute duties with competence, dedication and sustained output.

This assertion was made by the Ogun State Head of Service during the launch of a diagnostic initiative titled “Know Your Health Status” held at the Arcade Ground in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

The programme, organised by the state government as part of Public Service Day commemorations, aims to enable workers to prioritise health through preventive measures, health screenings and early identification of health issues.

The Head of Service urged public servants to engage fully with the initiative, emphasising that regular health assessments facilitate timely detection and management of emerging health complications.

He credited the state administration under Governor Dapo Abiodun with demonstrating consistent commitment to public servant welfare through various interventions including palliative allowances, flexible weekly scheduling, punctual salary disbursement and continuous professional development.

He advocated that public servants adopt preventive healthcare practices and healthier lifestyles, underscoring that well-being and sustained development form prerequisites for productive service delivery.

Healthcare professionals participating in the event provided guidance regarding healthy habits and early disease detection.

A consultant physician, registered dietician and chief physiotherapist emphasised the importance of consistent meals, appropriate portion sizes and regular movement to counteract sedentary workplace conditions.

They demonstrated office-compatible physical exercises targeting prevention of musculoskeletal discomfort.

A representative from the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme encouraged unregistered workers to enrol, highlighting the scheme’s provision of healthcare access during financial constraints.

The Permanent Secretary commended the governor’s programme approval, urging workers to maximise the initiative’s benefits through enhanced workplace productivity.

Public Service Day observances commenced Friday with religious ceremonies held at government facilities throughout Abeokuta.
