Kano Police Smash Cross Border Vehicle Syndicate Using Injured Man Disguise

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended three suspects engaged in vehicle theft through cross-border intelligence operations, resulting in the recovery of four tricycles and a maroon Pontiac.

The command’s Public Relations Officer disclosed the arrests on Tuesday, highlighting cooperation between security agencies across state lines.

The initial case originated on August 4 when a Hotoro Quarters resident reported the theft of his tricycle at Bompai Police Division.

The rider had collected a passenger identified as Muhammad Sani near Hadejia Road.

Sani, presenting himself as injured with bandages on his hand and leg, requested a stop at a supermarket.

During the rider’s absence, Sani allegedly used an alternative ignition key to operate the tricycle and fled the scene.

Alert from Bompai officers to neighbouring divisions enabled Bichi Police Division to apprehend Sani.

Investigation subsequently extended to Katsina State, where operatives arrested 33-year-old Aminu Saad, who was found with four additional tricycles.

Police determined these vehicles had been acquired through identical theft methodology.

Saad acknowledged membership within the criminal syndicate.

The recovered tricycles were restored to their legitimate owners whilst pursuit continues for remaining network participants.

A separate operation resulted in the July 25 detention of 23-year-old Isah Yusuf, who was discovered with a maroon Pontiac lacking registration.

Yusuf asserted that he had obtained the vehicle from Niger Republic through an intermediary named Ashiru Mohammed.

Subsequent investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Taraba State, transported to Niger Republic, sold through commercial dealers and subsequently re-imported into Nigeria.

The command appealed to the rightful proprietor to furnish ownership documentation for recovery through established police channels.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori commended operational personnel, characterising the breakthroughs as validating intelligence-directed methodology and inter-agency coordination.

He committed to intensified enforcement under the Inspector-General’s Handshake Patrol initiative and appealed to residents for sustained vigilance and prompt criminal reporting.
