Court remands man for allegedly assaulting his ex-wife’s new husband

A Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Thursday remanded a 32-year-old man, Isah Adamu, for allegedly assaulting his former wife’s new partner.
The police charged Adamu with criminal assault, criminal intimidation and breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Hauwa Aboki gave the order following an oral bail application filed by the Defence Counsel, Ms Lillian Ibrahim.
Aboki ordered the defence counsel to file a written bail application.
Aboki adjourned the case until Sept 29, for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Bankole Babatunde, holding brief for Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainants, Mr and Mrs Emmanuel Akpan and reported the matter at the Karimo Police Station on August 17.
Babatunde said that the defendant followed the complainants from a health centre in Karimo to their house in Gwagwa, Abuja.
He said the defendant grabbed Akpan by his shirt and slapped him.
The prosecutor said that when Akpan’s wife, Grace attempted to pull the defendant’s hand from her new husband’s shirt, he slapped and kicked her.
Babatunde said that the defendant said he would not allow Grace marry another man.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 265, 397, and 114 of the Penal Code Law.
