The Defence Headquarters says the viral video purportedly showing Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, making partisan political statements was an artificial intelligence-generated fabrication.
The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, made this known in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
Mr Uba said the video was fake and did not emanate from the CDS, stressing that the statements attributed to Oluyede were false and should be disregarded.
“The video is a product of artificial intelligence-generated manipulation, apparently designed to deceive the public and misrepresent the position of the CDS.
“The video is also aimed at bringing the Armed Forces of Nigeria into disrepute.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution,” he said.
He added that the Armed Forces remained committed to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the defence of the nation.
The director condemned the deliberate creation and circulation of the fake video, warning those behind it and persons knowingly amplifying the material to desist forthwith.
Mr Uba urged members of the public to disregard the video and rely only on information released through official Defence Headquarters channels.
He listed the official channels as Defence Headquarters Nigeria on Facebook and WhatsApp, DHQNigeria on X, DefenceHQ on Instagram and DefenceTV-Nigeria on YouTube.
He reiterated the commitment of the Defence Headquarters to protecting the integrity and professionalism of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
