Edo Govt. House Chapel begins 7-day prayer, fasting for Okpebholo, state

BENIN CIIITY – The Edo State Government House Chapel has commenced a seven-day prayer and fasting exercise for divine protection, preservation, wisdom and continued prosperity of Governor Monday Okpebholo, members of his administration and the people of Edo State.

The spiritual exercise, which began on Monday, August 10, and will run until Sunday, August 16, 2026, is being organised under the theme: “There Shall Not Be Loss,” drawn from Acts 27:22, Deuteronomy 33:6 and Isaiah 28:18.

The exercise is scheduled to hold daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters and Chaplain of the Edo State Government House Chapel, Apostle (Dr.) Sule Faraday Azekhumen, JP, religious groups, ministers, clergymen, members of the Government House Chapel, government functionaries and civil servants were invited to participate in the spiritual exercise.

According to the organisers, the prayer and fasting programme is intended to provide an avenue for the people to collectively seek the face of God for the protection of Governor Okpebholo, his working team and the entire state.

The exercise will also focus on prayers for divine preservation, wisdom, peace, victory, stability and the continued prosperity of Edo State.

The organisers urged participants to approach the exercise with fervent faith, unity and commitment, stressing the importance of collective prayers at a time when the state is seeking greater peace, progress and development.

The spiritual exercise is anchored on the biblical assurance of divine protection, particularly the words of Psalm 121:8: “The Lord shall preserve his going out and his coming in.”

The organisers said the prayer programme would bring together people from different religious groups and government institutions in a united spiritual effort to intercede for the leadership and people of Edo State.

They also emphasised that participation in the fasting aspect of the exercise should take into consideration individual health conditions.

Accordingly, persons who are unable to undertake physical fasting for health reasons have been advised not to participate in the physical fast, but to join the prayers and spiritual intercession according to their strength and medical needs.

The seven-day programme is expected to provide participants with an opportunity for personal devotion, collective intercession and prayers for the continued peace, protection and development of Edo State.

The Government House Chapel called on all invited participants to unite in faith throughout the period and seek divine guidance and protection for the state’s leadership and citizens.

The prayer and fasting exercise is expected to conclude on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
