FG registers Nigerian Law Society cooperative society

The Federal Government has issued a certificate of registration to the Nigerian Law Society Cooperative Society, a move the association described as a major step towards strengthening members’ welfare and establishing a microfinance bank.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President of the Nigerian Law Society, Ambassador Dahiru Aliyu, SCN.

According to the statement, the certificate, dated July 2026 and issued pursuant to the Nigerian Cooperative Societies Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004 Edition, formally recognises the Nigerian Law Society Cooperative Society.

The association said the registration serves a dual purpose by recognising the Nigerian Law Society through relevant Federal Government agencies while also reinforcing its commitment to the welfare of members.

It added that the registration forms part of its long-term strategic plan and represents a major milestone towards the establishment of the Nigerian Law Society Microfinance Bank.

According to the statement, the proposed cooperative society will provide different categories of loans to members to support the acquisition of houses, vehicles and the establishment of law firms.

The association said the loans would come with pocket-friendly interest rates and favourable terms aimed at improving members’ welfare.

The Nigerian Law Society also urged registered members interested in joining the cooperative society to contact the association’s Vice-President for registration and further details.
