Governor Yusuf approves N300m for Hisbah mass wedding beneficiaries in Kano

The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the release of N300 million to support beneficiaries of the state’s Hisbah Mass Wedding Scheme.

Under the intervention, each bride will receive N200,000 to support payment of dowry and provide start-up capital, while newly married couples will also receive household items to help them establish their homes.

The Commander of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, disclosed this on Thursday during a pre-marital orientation for prospective couples at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano.

Daurawa said the financial assistance would be paid directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries after they open individual accounts.

He added that the state government would provide complete household furniture for the couples, while each groom would receive 10 yards of fabric, a cap, shoes and food items in line with the governor’s directive.

According to him, the intervention is designed to reduce the financial pressure associated with marriage and provide the couples with a stable foundation for family life.

Daurawa also announced that the state government would host a grand wedding reception for the couples on Saturday at the Government House, with prominent Islamic scholars from across the country expected to attend and offer prayers for the newlyweds. 

The Hisbah commander urged the prospective husbands to treat their wives with love, fairness and responsibility, while advising the brides to demonstrate patience and support as they build their homes.

He also stressed the importance of resolving marital disputes through reconciliation.

“Hisbah Board does not encourage divorce without reconciliation. Any marital disagreement should first be brought before the Board for mediation before any further action is taken,” Daurawa said. 

He further appealed to beneficiaries of previous editions of the mass wedding programme to attend Saturday’s reception, saying their presence would encourage the new couples and reinforce the objectives of the initiative.
