Indian authorities are looking for a 46-year-old Nigerian man named Emmanuel Afam in connection with a drug case.
He is wanted by the Kerala police over a seizure of 3.3 kilograms of MDMA, a controlled substance.
Afam is believed to have fled, and police issued a lookout notice for him.
Nine people have already been arrested in the case, which started when drugs were seized near a toll plaza in Kozhikode.
During investigations, detectives searched a suspect’s apartment in Jaipur and found MDMA and other evidence.
The suspect told police his supplier was a Nigerian he had met while in a Bengaluru prison in an earlier drug case.
The man was known only by the name Frank Maxin.
Police took the suspect to the prison and showed him photos of Nigerians who had been held there.
He identified the man, and investigators later confirmed his real name was Emmanuel Afam.
Afam is accused of using around nineteen Indian and Nigerian phone numbers and communicating through phones without SIM cards and applications that scramble internet addresses to hide his location.
A court issued an arrest warrant against Afam and a lookout notice was sent through immigration authorities.
Afam’s case is one of several involving Nigerians facing drug charges in India.
News reports say that on August 19, four other Nigerian nationals were arrested in India over alleged involvement in drug tr@fficking, with drugs worth approximately 2.1 billion naira recovered.
The arrests followed coordinated operations by narcotics police targeting foreign nationals allegedly involved in drug tr@fficking and overstaying their visas.
