Nigerian Sisters Make History With First Class Degrees in One Year

Two Nigerian sisters from the United Kingdom have both graduated with First Class Honours in the same year, a rare academic achievement that has made their families and communities proud.

Stephanie and Isabel Offor, from Corby in Northamptonshire, graduated from different universities studying different subjects.

Stephanie completed mechanical engineering at the University of Leicester while Isabel finished law and business at Nottingham Trent University.

Both earned the top grade.

Before graduating, Stephanie won an award for excellent work during her placement year.

She is now starting a job as a manufacturing engineer with Caterpillar, a major equipment maker.

Isabel was one of only eleven students out of forty-seven in her cohort to achieve First Class Honours at her university.

Their father said he had been told they were on track for these results but only truly believed it when the letters arrived from the universities.

Their mother said her daughters have given her wings to fly.

An academic expert who attended their celebration said having two sisters graduate with First Class Honours in such different and demanding fields is incredibly rare.

Isabel has encouraged others to dream big, work hard and never let anyone make them feel they are not good enough.

For both sisters, their First Class Honours degrees mark years of hard work and sacrifice as they move into their new careers.
