Kaduna Council Sounds Alarm Over Money Demands for Free Fertiliser

A local government council in Kaduna State has warned that people are allegedly being asked to pay money during a free fertilizer distribution program.

The Kaura Local Government Council said the demands for 1,000 to 2,000 naira from farmers receiving the fertilizer are unacceptable.

Officials described it as an attempt to take advantage of a government program designed to help farmers reduce costs and boost food production.

The council’s spokesperson said the fertilizer distribution is completely free and that no one should pay money at any stage of the process.

He urged farmers and residents not to give money to anyone, whether at the distribution points or elsewhere.

The council told people to report immediately to law enforcement if anyone tries to extort money during the exercise.

This will help keep the distribution process transparent and smooth.

Officials warned that anyone caught demanding or collecting money including government staff, temporary workers or private individuals would face legal punishment.

The administration has a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and will not protect anyone found guilty, the spokesperson said.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and accountability, saying it would make sure the fertilizer reached the farmers it was intended for.

Officials thanked farmers and residents for their cooperation and urged them to remain alert and report any attempted extortion during the distribution.
