Kebbi governor creates new district, appoints traditional rulers

Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has approved the creation of a new district comprising eight village areas in Dandi Local Government Area of the state.

The governor also approved the creation of a new village headship in Augie Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen traditional administration and grassroots governance.

The approvals were contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar Dutsinmari, in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

Dutsinmari said the newly created Buma District was carved out of Dolekaina District in Dandi LGA, with Alhaji Salisu Hakimi appointed as its District Head.

He said: “The newly created Buma District was carved out of Dolekaina District in Dandi LGA, with Alhaji Salisu Hakimi appointed as its District Head.

“The district comprises eight Village Areas: Tunga Rafi, Gamana, Tudunsan, Gillare, Bump Town, Goraro, Bukki and Alfarma Kwara.”

The commissioner added that the governor had also approved the appointment of Nasiru Umar Maizabo as the Village Head of Marafan Garin Haruna in Tiggi District, Augie LGA.

Dutsinmari said the appointments were made in accordance with the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which confer powers relating to the creation of districts and appointment of district heads.

He urged the newly appointed traditional rulers to uphold discipline, honesty, transparency and dedication in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He said: “Your appointments were made based on your past records. Be rest assured of the Governor’s and the Ministry’s support and cooperation.”

The development is expected to strengthen traditional institutions and enhance grassroots administration in the affected communities.
