Lagos: Police nab five suspected vandals, recover truckload of iron rods

The Lagos State Police Command has detained five suspected telecommunication vandals and recovered a truckload of suspected stolen iron rods in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.

The spokesperson of the command and a Superintendent of Police, SP Abimbola Adebisi, made this known to newsmen on Saturday.

According to Adebisi in a statement, the arrest is part of the command’s intensified efforts to curb vandalism and theft of critical infrastructure across Lagos.

She said the suspects, whose ages were between 18 and 29, were caught in the act.

“They were caught stealing iron poles meant for the construction of telecommunication masts and were arrested while trying to convey the materials in a truck, ” she said.

The Police Public Relations Officer said that the suspects were currently in custody, while the case is being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.

The image maker said that investigation was ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and unravel the full extent of their activities.

Adebisi said the command appreciated the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army for its cooperation and synergy, stressing that it contributed significantly to the successful operation and arrest of the suspects.

The spokesperson said the Commissioner, CP Fatai Tijani, reiterated the command’s resolve to protect critical infrastructure and bring perpetrators of vandalism to justice.

She urged residents to promptly provide credible information on suspicious activities in their communities.
