Mammoth crowd as PDP flags off campaigns in Ogun Central

Thousands of indigenes, party faithful and supporters on Wednesday, thronged the streets of Ogun Central Senatorial District as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, officially flagged off its campaigns for the 2027 general elections.

The campaign train began at Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency through to Abeokuta North, then to Abeokuta South.

The governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu; deputy governorship candidate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo; senatorial candidate, Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo and other dignitaries were present during the flag-off at Agbado Station.

Mrs Adebutu, urged supporters and residents of Ogun Central to vote for Sen. Obasanjo, describing her as a tested and trusted candidate, whose performance while representing the district remained unmatched.

Mrs Adebutu said it was time for Ogun central to bid farewell to non-performance and embrace liberation through good governance.

He also urged  residents and party supporters to come out in January to vote for the PDP, protect their votes, and resist all forms of intimidation.

On her ​‌‌⁠⁠⁠‍‍⁠⁠‌‌⁠⁠​‌​⁠⁠‌​part, Obasanjo said she is pleased that, wherever she went, people willingly pointed to the impact of her representation and the number of people whose lives had been transformed through her efforts to alleviate poverty.

She pledged to do even more to ensure that the people continued to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

She also promised to bring back “Iyaniwura” foundation, which gave succor to people at the grassroots through poverty alleviation programmes.

“I’m coming back to alleviate the pain and suffering of our people. Things have become worse for our people; those who had cars have sold them because of many challenges they had faced,” she said.

Some supporters and intending voters pledged their support and loyalty to the PDP candidates, assuring them of their votes in the January elections.

“We will vote and stand by our votes for PDP,” they said.

Other candidates included Toyin Amuzu, the House of Representatives candidate for Abeokuta South Federal constituency, Ogun assembly candidate for Abeokuta South Olufunbi Majekodunmi and Dele Olaleye, House of Representatives candidate for Abeokuta North Federal constituency.

The campaign train ended at the Ake pavilion with more crowds than the previous constituencies.
