NYSC postpones orientation camp opening in Sokoto, Niger

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has postponed the commencement of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Sokoto and Niger states due to ongoing renovation works at the two orientation camps.
The scheme announced the development in a statement issued on Friday by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, on the NYSC’s official X handle.
According to the statement, the extension became necessary because rehabilitation work by the respective state governments is yet to be completed.
Under the revised timetable, the orientation course in both states will now begin on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The swearing-in ceremony and cut-off date have been scheduled for Friday, August 14, while the orientation exercise will end with the closing ceremony on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
The statement read: “The Management of the National Youth Service Corps wishes to announce the extension of the commencement date for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Sokoto and Niger States. This is due to the ongoing renovation works in both Orientation Camps by their respective State Governments.”
The NYSC also advised prospective corps members deployed to the affected states to make adequate travel arrangements and avoid embarking on night journeys.
It stated: “All Prospective Corps Members are advised to avoid embarking on night travels to their Orientation Camps.”
The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, wished all prospective corps members safe journeys as preparations continue for the orientation exercise.
