Abia North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has pledged to resign from the All Progressives Congress should President Bola Tinubu show disrespect towards the opposition or the Catholic Church.
Speaking during a broadcast interview, Kalu stressed that Nigerians should not anticipate Tinubu extending preferential treatment to political rivals ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former Abia State governor defended the President’s stance on opposition engagement, arguing that no politician would extend such courtesy to their political opponents.
Kalu characterised Tinubu as having treated the opposition fairly and noted that the President has not unlawfully targeted opposition figures.
He maintained that adherence to the rule of law is essential for stability and prosperity within the country.
He asserted that Tinubu’s position that he will not provide preferential treatment to opposition forces but will conduct a fair electoral contest without unlawfully targeting anybody aligns with reasonable political expectations.
Kalu stated that he considers himself guided by fairness and truth, and that he would only abandon the APC if Tinubu were to demonstrate disrespect towards either the opposition or the Catholic Church.
