Atletico Madrid has rejected an opportunity to acquire Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray, despite a proposed transfer fee of €75 million, according to sports media reports.
Galatasaray had made the 27-year-old available to the Spanish club through intermediaries, and Osimhen was reportedly prepared to reduce his salary to play under manager Diego Simeone.
Nevertheless, Atletico declined the proposal.
The club cited insufficient financial resources to complete such a substantial acquisition during the current transfer window.
Additionally, Atletico already has Julian Alvarez established in the forward position, with management committed to the Argentine and showing no inclination to pursue his departure.
These circumstances rendered Osimhen’s signing unnecessary in the club’s assessment.
Osimhen’s willingness to accept diminished earnings despite his considerable compensation at Galatasaray, enhanced by tax exemptions for foreign residents in Turkey demonstrated his desire to join Atletico and work under Simeone.
His contract in Istanbul extends through 2029. Notwithstanding Osimhen’s eagerness to join the project, Atletico maintained its decision to forego the €75 million transfer.
