Osun 2026: Angry youths chase alleged vote buyers, seize cash at polling unit

Angry youths allegedly chased away suspected vote buyers and seized bags containing wads of naira notes at some polling units in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State, on Saturday.
One of the youths was seen displaying a nylon bag said to have been abandoned by the alleged vote buyers.
The man, whose identity was not disclosed, told journalists that “he did not know the exact amount of money contained in the bag”, which was filled with N1,000 notes.
According to him, “the youths intercepted some of the alleged vote buyers and collected the money from them, while others managed to escape”.
He said the incident occurred at Ward 4, Units 7 and 13 in Ejigbo, where he claimed money was being distributed to voters at about 10:15am and 10:30am.
The man further alleged that the incident occurred at a polling unit in the area associated with one of the governorship candidates.
He did not identify the individuals allegedly involved in the distribution of the money or state the amount recovered by the youths.
The video, which was recorded during the ongoing governorship election, showed the man speaking to journalists while holding the nylon bag containing the cash.
Daily Trust could not independently establish from the video the identity of those who allegedly brought the money to the polling units or the total amount involved.
The incident comes amid heightened concerns over vote buying in the Osun governorship election, with candidates and political parties competing for votes across the state.
