Osun guber: Adeleke alleges voter intimidation, BVAS malfunction

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed concern over the conduct of the ongoing governorship election, alleging malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, machines and voter intimidation in some parts of the state.

Mr Adeleke made the allegations during an interview with Osun Radio on Saturday, saying he had received reports that BVAS machines were malfunctioning or operating slowly at several polling units.

The governor also alleged that suspected thugs were disrupting the electoral process in Olorunda and Irewole Local Government Areas, accusing a man he identified as Enuku and his associates of intimidating voters.

“Right now, there are complaints that BVAS are not working well. I am not happy at all. The police are aiding the APC. Enuku, the thug, is disturbing people,” Mr Adeleke said.

He said the slow pace of accreditation was frustrating voters who had turned out to exercise their franchise, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to address the situation.

“People came out to vote, but the machine is slow. It is not working well. INEC should find a solution. My people are being chased in Ikire. I am still watching them. I don’t know if the police are working for APC. I am still watching,” he added.

Mr Adeleke also raised concerns about the conduct of security personnel in Olorunda, while urging his supporters to remain calm, cast their ballots and protect their votes.

“In Olorunda, they are behaving anyhow. My advice is that my people should vote and defend their votes. Don’t be afraid. It is just for one day,” the governor said.
