Peter Obi Urges Church Leaders to Hold Government Accountable

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has urged church leaders to maintain their commitment to speaking truth to power and advocating for the vulnerable.

Speaking at the opening of the Methodist Church of Nigeria’s 50th/15th Biennial Conference in Ibadan, Obi stressed that religious leaders must continue standing with suffering citizens and pressing for justice, sound governance, and improved conditions nationwide.

He characterised the church as one of Nigeria’s most significant sources of moral authority, hope, and ethical guidance.

Obi reflected on the Methodist Church’s long-standing contribution to the nation and expressed appreciation for the institution’s faithfulness over the years, noting Nigeria’s substantial potential as a country.

He called on the church and conference delegates to persist in holding leaders accountable and to pray that political figures be moved to deploy public resources for collective benefit rather than personal gain.
