The Ghana Police Service has arrested self-styled pastor Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng over an alleged romance fraud scheme.
Police accuse him of targeting women through online church services on Instagram.
Kwarteng allegedly told several women that God had revealed they were destined to become his wives.
Investigators claim he gained their trust by meeting their families, presenting promise rings and making promises about marriage.
Police said he later introduced some of the women to what he described as a car tyre business.
He allegedly collected thousands of dollars from them under the promise that he would import and clear containers of tyres. Police claim he later became unreachable.
Kwarteng is also accused of obtaining intimate images from some of the women and using them to demand money.
His wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, was also arrested. Police allege that Kwarteng shared some of the images with her and that she threatened the women.
Seven women had officially reported the alleged incidents when police announced the arrests. Claims that more than 10 women were involved have not been officially confirmed.
Police said the alleged offences date back to 2021.
Kwarteng and his wife appeared before Accra Circuit Court One. They face charges including conspiracy to commit a crime, defrauding by false pretences and sharing intimate images without consent.
The case remains before the court. The allegations have not been proven, and both accused persons remain innocent unless found guilty.
Police have asked anyone with a similar complaint involving Kwarteng to report to the nearest police station.
