A woman has sparked a heated discussion online after sharing her views on money and financial responsibilities in marriage.
In a video that recently resurfaced on social media, the woman said her husband should provide for the family without asking her to contribute towards expenses such as their children’s school fees.
“My husband cannot say I should come and pay school fees with him. It’s not done. My money is my money. His money is for all of us. He has to provide everything,” she said.
She explained that her position comes from her understanding of Islamic teachings. According to her, a husband must provide for his wife and children, even when his wife earns her own money.
The woman also argued that a man should consider a woman’s lifestyle before marrying her.
“You can’t pick a child from Banana Island and take her to Agege. How will she survive? You can’t pick a child that has grown up with maids and chefs and everybody around, then ask her to come and do her laundry by herself,” she added.
Her comments divided social media users.
Some people supported her and said Islamic marriage places the main financial responsibility on the husband. Others argued that couples should support each other, especially when one partner faces financial problems.
The discussion has raised fresh questions about money, religious expectations and shared responsibilities in marriage.
“My husband cannot say I should come and pay school fees with him. It’s not done. My money is my money, his money is for all of us.”
I want to ask, “What happens then when the man goes broke or is out of sufficient cash?”
