A worker at a power distribution company was struck by an electric current while fixing a pole in Lagos on Thursday.

The man was working on an elevated ladder when the shock happened at a bus stop in one of the city’s neighbourhoods.

Fellow workers rushed to help bring him down safely from the ladder as people gathered below in alarm.

A video posted online showed the injured man struggling with his body positioned awkwardly on the ladder while his colleagues carefully helped lower him.

Someone recording the scene said the worker had survived the initial shock and was still conscious as they worked to rescue him.

The company confirmed the worker survived the incident and is now in hospital receiving treatment.

An official said the company is putting safety measures in place to prevent such accidents from happening again in the future.
