Daniel Ujah, a former councilor representing Awume-Icho Ward in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, has been remanded in the Otukpo Correctional Center over an alleged assault on a woman.
Ujah, 43, was docked before the Upper Area Court 2, Otukpo, on charges bordering on criminal trespass, intimidation, criminal force and assault, causing grievous hurt and attempt to culpable homicide.
The case was filed as CR33/2026 FIR following a petition submitted at the Office of the Area Commander, Nigeria Police, Otukpo by one Rebecca Adole.
The FIR alleged that on August 28, 2026, Ujah trespassed into the compound of Adole’s mother, Amina Iduh, at Akwutulo, Awume and assaulted her.
Ujah allegedly hit the woman several times, then pushed her into a fire that burned her buttocks and set her clothes on fire, police said.
Police officers in Onyagede, Ohimini LGA later took the victim to a hospital where she was receiving treatment.
The FIR also accused Ujah of threatening to kill the woman, saying no one would be able to stop him.
Ujah entered a plea of not guilty to the charges when they were mentioned on Wednesday.
His counsel, Rev. O. Simon, who stood in for P.O. Ella, applied for bail for him.
However, Inspector Nancy Alechenu, the prosecuting counsel, opposed the application.
The presiding magistrate, Hasia Garuba, thereafter ordered that Ujah be remanded at Otukpo Correctional Center pending further proceedings.
The case was adjourned for further mention on September 22, 2026.
