The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old-man, Bello Abubakar, for the attempted murder and robbery of a commercial motorcyclist at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera in the Shanga Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Kebbi Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman.

Usman said the incident occurred on August 23, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., when the victim, 22-year-old Bello Umar, a commercial motorcycle rider from Wasagu Village in Danko/Wasagu LGA, was found with a serious head injury at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera Village in Shanga LGA.

He disclosed that the victim was evacuated to Koko General Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged.

The PPRO said preliminary investigation revealed that Abubakar allegedly hired the victim’s motorcycle from Koko Town to Tungar Dariya Bush, where he attacked him with a hoe.

“He covered the victim’s body with leaves, believing he was dead, and made away with the motorcycle to Yauri Town,” Usman said.

He explained that sustained investigation led operatives to the stolen motorcycle, which was traced and recovered, subsequently leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The police said the suspect was cooperating with investigators, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, described the alleged act as “despicable and a direct assault on human life and livelihood.”

Hadejia warned that the command would continue to pursue and prosecute individuals who target commercial motorcycle operators and other law-abiding citizens.

“The Command will hunt down and prosecute anyone who preys on commercial motorcycle riders or any law-abiding citizen,” the commissioner warned.

He also commended the police operatives for what he described as their professionalism and swift action in tracing the stolen motorcycle and arresting the suspect.
