Obi Meets Lagos NDC Guber Candidate, Others

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has met with the party’s governorship candidates and other key stakeholders as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Lagos State governorship candidate of the party, Funso Doherty, disclosed this in a terse statement on Tuesday.

Doherty said he joined some of his fellow NDC governorship candidates and other key stakeholders for what he described as a “rich and purposeful engagement” with Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He said the discussions focused on several issues, including the ongoing campaigns and recent developments within the party.

The meeting came days after Obi and Kwankwaso met with the NDC national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, and the party’s National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, as part of consultations on the party’s affairs.

It was the second time in two days they were meeting to deliberate and finalise decisions, particularly as the NDC prepares to unveil its Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 elections.

A separate meeting was also held between Dickson and Lagos State officials of the party, with Obi later joining the engagement.

Dickson said the Lagos delegation included Doherty, the South-West Zonal Vice Chairman, the Lagos State chairman, senior party officials, candidates and other stakeholders.

According to Dickson, Obi later joined the meeting, where both of them participated in discussions on the party’s preparedness in Lagos.

Dickson said he was impressed by the level of unity, commitment and cooperation demonstrated by the party’s candidates and stakeholders in the state.

He said Obi and himself encouraged members to sustain the momentum and stressed the importance of unity of purpose and collective support for all candidates of the party.

“We must continue to work together as one family, putting the interests of the party and, ultimately, the Nigerian people above individual interests,” Dickson said in a statement.

He added that the Lagos State team would continue with consultations, reconciliation and engagement with interest groups and individuals within the party.

Dickson said the engagements were aimed at strengthening the party’s unity, resolving areas of concern and ensuring that the NDC goes into the 2027 campaigns as one united and formidable team.
