APC Primaries: Ex-National Vice Chairman wins senatorial ticket
The former National Vice Chairman, South West, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. D. I. Kekemeke, has won the party’s primary for Ondo South Senatorial District.
The former National Vice Chairman polled a total of 35,835 votes to clinch the senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.
Akinfolarin Mayowa Samuel came a distant second with 6,435 votes, while Moratorium Lebi had 1,845 votes to get a third place.
The former Secretary to the Ondo State Government dedicated his victory to God for His benevolence before and during the campaigns for the party’s ticket in the 2027 general election.
Dr. Kekemeke also expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their unwavering support.
He addressed party leaders and members after he was declared winner of the primary election by the APC Returning Officer, Dr. Tunde Monehin, at the Ondo South Senatorial District Collation Centre in Okitipupa.
He said clinching the party’s ticket was a win for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa, and other party leaders and members in Ondo State.
He called on fellow contestants for the ticket to close ranks and work together for the interest of the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
“We won together and would work together for the cherished victory at the general election in 2027,” he said.
Kekemeke reiterated his resolve to give the people of the district efficient and effective representation, saying: “We will live here and live with the people of Ondo South to represent them well.”
He further promised to collaborate with other federal legislators from Ondo sState at the National Assembly to provide a legislative framework that would catalyse socio-economic growth in the state in support of ongoing efforts of Governor Ayedatiwa’s government.
Further break down of the results showed that Akingboye Taiwo Oyewumi scored 842 votes; former Deputy Governor, Ajayi Alfred Agboola, 670 votes; Hon. Jumoke Akindele, 339 votes; and Princess Oladuni Odu, 290 votes.
