Cambodia denies ordering Nigerians, other Africans to leave country

The Royal Government of Cambodia has officially denied issuing any expulsion order targeting Nigerians and other African nationals to leave the country by May 31, 2026.
This was contained in a press clarification issued in Phnom Penh on Friday, May 29, 2026, by the General Department of Immigration under Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior.
It said the widely circulated public notice claiming that an immigration waiver was expiring is entirely fake news.
The clarification followed earlier reports that the Cambodian government had ordered Africans with expired immigration waivers to leave by May 31, 2026.
In its reaction, the government stated that the document was fabricated to distort the facts, mislead domestic and international audiences, and damage Cambodia’s international reputation.
“The General Department of Immigration of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia has the honor to inform the national and international public that the General Department has observed that recently, reports alleged that ‘Cambodia Ordered Africans with Expired Immigration Waivers to Leave by May 31, 2026’.”
The department stressed that no such directive had been issued by the Cambodian government. “The General Department of Immigration of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia wishes to clarify that the information published on those websites is completely untrue,” the statement added.
The Cambodian authorities urged members of the public to rely only on official government communication channels for verified immigration information.
