The ward executives of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, have announced the suspension of the senator representing Kogi East, Jibrin Isah Echocho, over alleged anti-party activities.

The party said the disciplinary action was taken to safeguard the unity, discipline and electoral strength of the APC in the district.

The suspension followed a resolution reached by the ward executive committee during its meeting held on May 26, 2026, after reviewing allegations of what it described as “protracted anti-party activities” by the lawmaker.

In a suspension letter signed by the Ward Chairman, Shaibu Mohammed, and Secretary, Kabiru Mohammed, alongside other executives, the party accused Mr Echocho of fraternising with opposition figures and engaging in talks allegedly aimed at defecting from the ruling party.

The ward executives further alleged that the senator’s moves were part of efforts to actualise a “self-serving third-term agenda”.

According to the party, Mr Echocho had consistently worked against the interests of the APC despite benefiting from the party’s platform for eight consecutive years.

The executives also accused the senator of failing to deliver his polling unit during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections, alleging that he did not provide the expected leadership during critical political contests in the state.

Speaking with reporters after the announcement, an APC chieftain, Mallam Nasiru Musa, described the suspension as timely and necessary to preserve the party’s integrity in Kogi East.

“Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho’s activities have become cancerous to the party,” Mr Musa said.

“For eight years, he served himself and his family while the people suffered neglect and poor representation.

“We can no longer accommodate a senator who failed the people and has shown desperation to pull down the house simply because the party and the electorate rejected his third-term ambition,” he added.
