Bolt cautions users over delivery service abuse
Ride-hailing and logistics company Bolt on Tuesday issued a fresh warning to users in Nigeria over the misuse of its parcel delivery service, Bolt Send, urging customers to strictly comply with its guidelines on what can and cannot be transported through the platform.
The company said the advisory became necessary as more Nigerians increasingly rely on on-demand delivery services for both personal and business needs, noting that violations of its terms have created avoidable risks for customers, recipients and courier partners.
Bolt Send is designed for package deliveries such as documents, clothing, small gifts, forgotten personal items and small business parcels. However, the company said it has observed repeated attempts by some users to send items outside its approved categories.
According to Bolt, customers are prohibited from sending items valued above N50,000, as all parcels under the service are only insured up to that amount.
The company also banned the movement of illegal items, weapons, drugs, toxic substances, flammable materials, highly fragile goods, and highly perishable items, warning that such violations could endanger riders and compromise service reliability.
Bolt further advised users to properly package and seal items before pickup, ensure parcels do not exceed 25kg, and have packages ready before courier partners arrive. It also stressed the importance of providing accurate pickup and drop-off details to avoid delays and failed deliveries.
“Most deliveries on Bolt Send are completed successfully every day. Following these simple guidelines helps create a safer experience for everyone involved while ensuring the service remains reliable for users who depend on it,” Senior General Manager, West Africa at Bolt, Teddy Appah-Dankyi, stated.
The company added that by placing an order through Bolt Send, customers automatically agree to its terms and conditions and share responsibility for ensuring compliance with delivery rules.
Bolt warned that misuse of the service may lead to account restrictions, removal from the platform, or reporting to relevant authorities where necessary.
It also urged customers to review its delivery guidelines before sending parcels and to contact customer support when unsure about eligible items.
