Broadcast journalist Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has resigned from Media General and Onua TV/FM to focus fully on his political ambitions, as he prepares to contest the Gomoa West parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC.
The move caps months of increasingly public positioning in the constituency, where Captain Smart has spearheaded a wave of development projects, including CHPS compounds, classroom blocks, boreholes, and a planned block-making factory, while openly clashing with the sitting MP and local NDC executives, whom he has accused of trying to frustrate his efforts.
It’s not the first time Captain Smart has announced a departure from the station, he did so publicly in November 2023 and again in May 2025, with Media General on prior occasions declining to confirm reports of his exit as final.
This latest resignation, however, comes attached to a clear and specific goal, contesting the NDC primary for Gomoa West ahead of future elections, rather than an open-ended “break,” suggesting a more decisive break from broadcasting this time.
Media General has not yet issued an official statement confirming the resignation.
