Court Jails India Hemp Dealer 5 Years

A 42 year-old India hemp dealer, Abraham Udoh has been convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Federal High Court Lagos.

Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa convicted and sentenced the India hemp dealer after he pleaded guilty to a count charge made against him by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) today.

The convict a resident of 36, Pipeline Street, Alimosho area of the state, according to the prosecutor, Barrister Juliana Negedu was arrested with the prohibited drug weighing 13 Kilograms on May 16, 2026.

The prosecutor told the court that the illegal act of the convict, contravened Section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Following the convict’s guilty plea to the charge, the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the case, as well tendered all exhibits in the matter which were admitted by the court.

The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court to sentence the convict in accordance with the section of the NDLEA Act he was charged with.

But convict’s lawyer, Barrister G. U. Okaka, in his allocutor pleaded with the court to be merciful with his client, saying that he was a first time offender who did not have any record of previous conviction, among others.

Ruling on the counsel’s submissions, Justice Lewis-Allagoa sentenced the convict to five years imprisonment. 

The judge however ordered the court to pay N3 million and to perform six months community service in lieu of the prison terms.

Charge against the convict reads: “That you ABRAHAM UDOH ‘M’ 42 years old, on or about the 16th day of May, 2026, at 36 Pipeline Street, Alimosho Area, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, without lawful authority dealt in 13 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a Narcotic Drug similar to Cocaine, LSD and Heroin and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”
