Electricity: Nigeria to get additional 5mw solar energy deployment through REA – Tegbe

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has announced a plan to deploy an additional 5 megawatts of solar energy through the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Agency, REA.
Tegbe disclosed on Wednesday as the government unveiled a 504 kilowatt mini-grid in Epe, Lagos State.
He said the mini-grid initiative would boost the country’s electricity supply and complement the national grid, which supplies between 3,700 MW and 4,700 MW for over 250 million Nigerians.
According to him, the programme under the federal government’s Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme represents one of the most innovative renewable energy programmes currently being implemented in Nigeria.
Tegbe noted that decentralised renewable energy can complement existing distribution infrastructure and improve electricity reliability across Nigeria.
“The commissioning of this 504kW interconnected mini-grid marks another important milestone in our collective effort to provide reliable and sustainable electricity for productive use.
“Recognising the tremendous economic potential of this community and the increasing demand for reliable electricity, the Rural Electrification Agency is already working towards the deployment of an additional 5 MW of renewable energy capacity within Epe and its surrounding economic clusters,” he stated.
