KACRAN laments rising insecurity, charges farmers, herders to protect farmlands, grazing routes

As Nigeria enters the 2026/2027 farming season while also battling economic hardship and lingering farmers-herders conflicts, the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has appealed to pastoralists and farmers to safeguard farmlands, grazing reserves, and cattle routes to protect national peace and food security.
The National President of the association, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, made the appeal in a statement issued on Saturday and made available to DAILY POST in Damaturu.
“Herders and farmers are partners in progress. Sustainable peace can only be achieved when both groups operate within the ambit of the law, with mutual respect and understanding,” he said.
Bello warned that every hectare of farmland must be safeguarded against preventable losses. He lamented the rising fuel prices following subsidy removal and global economic shocks, which have directly affected the cost of farming inputs.
“Nigeria is currently grappling with multiple security challenges that consume trillions of naira annually, resources that should be channeled into nation-building.
He said insecurity has severely disrupted arable farming, livestock production, and fisheries, displaced millions of Nigerians, and rendered vast agricultural lands inaccessible.
The statement commended Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for reducing tractor hiring costs from ₦100,000 to ₦50,000 per day, and for efforts to reclaim grazing reserves, provide water infrastructure, and create new reserves in livestock-dense areas.
