Makarfi Hospital upgrade ends years of neglect – District Head

The District Head of Makarfi, Adamu Abdullahi, says the reconstruction and modernisation of General Hospital, Makarfi, by Governor Uba Sani has reversed decades of neglect and poor healthcare infrastructure.

Mr Abdullahi said the intervention had improved access to quality healthcare services, restored public confidence in government health institutions and renewed hope among residents of Makarfi and neighbouring communities.

The district head said this on Wednesday while addressing journalists during a statewide media tour of projects executed by the Uba Sani administration across Kaduna State’s Zone One, also known as Zaria Zone.

The media tour was led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, and Commissioner for Health, Umma Ahmad.

According to Mr Abdullahi, the hospital, established in the early 1970s, had not undergone any major reconstruction or received modern medical equipment for more than four decades.

He described the rehabilitation and upgrading of the facility as a landmark intervention that had addressed longstanding healthcare challenges and significantly improved the wellbeing of residents across communities.

“For many years, our people faced inadequate healthcare services and travelled long distances to obtain treatment. Today, that situation has changed following the reconstruction and equipping of this hospital.

“The project has brought relief, restored confidence in public healthcare and renewed hope among our people. We appreciate Gov. Uba Sani for fulfilling his promise to Makarfi community,” he said.

A patient receiving treatment at the facility, Malama Rabiu, said the hospital had reduced the hardship and financial burden associated with seeking healthcare services outside the area.

Mr Rabiu said residents could now access quality healthcare closer to their homes, adding that the development had brought significant relief to families across the community and surrounding settlements.

Also speaking, a resident, Malam Abdullahi Musa, said the project had strengthened public trust in government and demonstrated the administration’s commitment to improving citizens’ welfare through infrastructure development.

General Hospital, Makarfi, is among 16 general hospitals undergoing reconstruction and modernisation under the Kaduna State Government’s healthcare transformation programme currently being implemented statewide.

Speaking during the tour, the Commissioner for Health said the project reflected Sani’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the state.

She said the administration remained focused on expanding access to affordable, quality medical services and ensuring residents in all communities benefited from improved healthcare delivery.

Mrs Ahmad reiterated that the government considered healthcare a fundamental right and would continue investing in the rehabilitation, upgrading and equipping of facilities, particularly in underserved communities.
