One dead, 16 rescued in Lagos building collapse + Video

A multi-agency emergency response team has rescued 16 people and recovered one deceased adult male following the collapse of a building in the Alakija area of Lagos State.
The structural failure occurred today, June 25, 2026, at approximately 11:40 AM.
According to eyewitness accounts, the building suddenly caved in, trapping several occupants and workers inside.
Initial reports confirmed 10 rescues, but first responders pulled out 6 more individuals, bringing the total number of rescued survivors to 16.
The survivors sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical treatment.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses at the scene have reported hearing voices and noises coming from beneath the rubble.
However, search operations remain highly active and emergency operations are being coordinated heavily by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (Ijegun-Egba Fire Station), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Navy, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society are actively using heavy-duty excavators to comb through the wreckage.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to determine the cause of the building collapse.
