Police k!ll two kidnappers, recover N2.2m in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have k!lled two suspected kidnappers and recovered a firearm and N2.2m cash.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 said the suspects were shot d3ad during a follow-up operation linked to the rescue of an abducted victim in the state.
According to the PPRO, the operation was carried out by its Anti-Kidnapping Unit as part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
Babaseyi said the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village.
Upon receiving the report, the command activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical resources to secure the victim’s release and apprehend the suspects.on the gang.
Operatives traced members of the gang to their hideout within the state.
The suspects opened fire upon sighting the police operatives, prompting a gun battle during which two of them were neutralised while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
“Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have recorded a major breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing war against kidnapping, successfully securing the safe release of an abducted victim, neutralising two suspected kidnappers, and recovering a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, a cash sum of Two Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N2,200,000), and other exhibits linked to the criminal enterprise,” the statement read.
“The successful operation is a testament to the effectiveness of the intelligence-driven and proactive crime-fighting strategies being vigorously pursued by the Ogun State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, in ensuring the safety and security of residents across the State.
“The victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village, Ogun State. Upon receipt of the report, the Command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit and deployed intelligence and tactical resources to secure the victim’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Through sustained intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance, and relentless operational pressure mounted on the criminal gang, the victim was eventually released unharmed on June 18, 2026.

“Determined to ensure that those responsible did not evade justice, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intensified follow-up operations and embarked on a coordinated manhunt for the suspects.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives successfully traced members of the gang to their hideout within the State.
“On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape.
“The operatives responded professionally, leading to a gun duel during which two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot injuries.
“A search conducted on one of the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, while further examination of the scene yielded one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and a cash sum of Two Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N2,200,000), reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
“The Command has since intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing gang members, while investigations continues.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commending the gallantry, professionalism, courage, and operational effectiveness of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, stated that the success reinforces the Command’s resolve to relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals wherever they may seek refuge.
“The CP reiterated that Ogun State will remain hostile terrain for criminal elements and assured residents that the Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, robust tactical operations, and strategic partnerships with communities to protect lives and property.
“He further urged members of the public to remain security conscious and continue to provide timely, useful, and credible information that will aid ongoing efforts to rid the State of criminality.
“Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the Police.”
