Remain steadfast, embrace agriculture, Anglican Bishop urges Nigerians

​The Rt. Revd. Isaac Oluyamo, Bishop of the Ijesa North Diocese (Anglican Communion), has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in faith and urged the nation’s youth to embrace mechanized agriculture and modern animal husbandry as vital pathways to self-reliance and national food security.

​The Bishop made these remarks while delivering his presidential address at the official opening of the 3rd Session of the 5th Synod of the Diocese, held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Esa-Oke.

​The three-day event, which ran from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026, centered on the theme: “The Promises of God” (Isaiah 41:10).

 Presided over by Bishop Oluyamo and hosted by Chief Oladosu Fatokun, the Synod drew together delegates to reflect on spiritual growth and urgent pressing national matters.

​In his address, Bishop Oluyamo reminded Christians of the reliability of divine promises, contrasting them with the unpredictability of human assurances.

​“While human promises may fail, God’s Word remains unfailing, dependable, and eternally true,” the Bishop stated. He added that divine promises are entirely immune to shifting human circumstances because God is inherently faithful to fulfill His words.

Turning his attention to the state of the nation, the cleric strongly condemned the persistent waves of kidnapping, banditry, and criminality across the country. He called for a dual approach of intense, unified prayers for peace alongside more rigorous, proactive action from governments at all levels to protect lives and property.

​To mitigate the current economic challenges, Bishop Oluyamo pointed directly to the agricultural sector as a cornerstone for sustainable growth and job creation. He challenged Nigerian youths to move away from relying solely on white-collar jobs and instead leverage opportunities in mechanized farming and modern livestock management.

​As political landscapes shift across the country, Bishop Oluyamo commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for steering the nation’s affairs through its current hurdles. He also extended congratulations to the government and people of Ekiti State following their recently concluded gubernatorial election.

​Looking ahead to upcoming electoral cycles, the Bishop offered prayers for peaceful and transparent elections in Osun State, as well as the forthcoming 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

​He charged Nigerians to exercise their civic duties responsibly. ”Participate actively in the democratic process by voting strictly according to your conscience and convictions.”

​He further tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain an impartial umpire, upholding fairness and transparency in all upcoming polls.

In its final resolution, the Synod expressed firm confidence that Nigeria can overcome its current trials through a combination of responsible leadership, active citizenship, and divine intervention.

The Diocese affirmed that despite structural challenges, a future of peace, unity and economic prosperity is entirely within reach if citizens remain diligent and hopeful.
