‘They released Abu Trica but left my son behind’ – Mother of Daniel Yussif cries out

The mother of Daniel Yussif, a close associate of Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has made an emotional appeal for authorities to grant her son bail.

Yussif was arrested over his alleged involvement in a case involving the defrauding of elderly American victims of more than $8 million.

In a video seen by GhanaWeb on June 24, 2026, Yussif’s mother broke down in tears while saying her son remains in police custody even though other people arrested with him have been granted bail.

She said her son has spent six months in custody since his arrest and that his health has been getting worse.

“They arrested four people, including my son. They have freed all of them except for my son, Daniel.

“My son has been in custody for six months now, and his health is deteriorating. They shouldn’t allow them to take my son away. They should at least grant bail to my son because he is suffering,” she said.

The distraught mother insisted that her son is innocent and said he was only trying to make a living.

She also appealed to authorities not to allow her son to be extradited to the United States to face trial.

“My son has done nothing wrong, and I’m pleading with the authorities to speak up for my son. They shouldn’t allow the Americans to take our sons away and change their destiny. I’m begging them to grant bail to my son, who is trying to earn a living. It is sad that they have left my son behind and released the others,” she stated.

She questioned whether extraditing her son would solve the country’s challenges and said the situation has affected her emotionally.

“Are they trying to sell my son? We have gold, diamonds and other minerals, so will the extradition of my son Daniel solve Ghana’s problems? Mothers should rise and speak up. Due to my son’s condition, I haven’t been able to sleep,” she continued.

She also appealed to Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to intervene in the matter.

Daniel Yussif was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport on January 14, 2026, after allegedly attempting to leave Ghana following the arrest of his associates.

The case continues as authorities investigate the allegations.
