Family Gathers To Mark One-Year Anniversary Of Daddy Lumba’s Death Amid Ongoing Family Dispute

Today, July 26, 2026, marks exactly one year since the death of Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra at age 60.

Video circulating online shows family members gathered, with some accounts describing the setting as the room where he was laid to rest, to commemorate the anniversary.

However, the commemoration comes amid unresolved and public disagreement within Daddy Lumba’s family over the anniversary itself.

Victor Kofi Owusu, known as Abusuapanyin Tupac and a disputed former head of the Ekuona Family, had said preparations were underway for a July 26 anniversary event that would include customary rites for the late musician’s widow.

But Nana Kwabena Brefo, speaking for Daddy Lumba’s immediate family, publicly denied any such event had been organised, stating the matter remains before the courts and that the family does not even know where Daddy Lumba was buried.

The dispute follows months of legal and family tension since his death, including disagreements over funeral arrangements and questions over authority within the family.

Daddy Lumba’s death last year prompted a national outpouring of grief, including a candlelight vigil at Independence Square attended by fans, musicians, and public officials, and tributes from communities as far as Germany, the UK, and the US.
