Freshly Commissioned Osun Flyover Damaged Weeks After Opening

Just three weeks after it opened to traffic, a portion of the recently completed LAMECO flyover in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, has experienced damage due to extended rainfall.

After an overnight downpour that lasted for about eight hours between Thursday and Friday, the 672-meter flyover, which Governor Ademola Adeleke commissioned on July 1, 2026, developed a visible depression on one piece of the carriageway.

Before traffic authorities barred access, drivers and motorcyclists had to slow down when navigating the area due to evident fissures and a sunken asphalt surface in the damaged section of the bridge.

Concerned about the bridge’s status, locals and commuters urged the state administration to make quick repairs to guarantee public safety and stop further deterioration.

Due to the damaged section’s disruption of the regular traffic flow within the Osogbo metropolis, many drivers were compelled to choose alternate routes.

Later, while officials evaluated the extent of the damage, security forces from the Osun Amotekun Corps blocked off the damaged portion of the flyover, keeping cars and pedestrians from accessing the bridge.

However, because the flyover was formally opened less than a month ago as part of the state government’s infrastructure development program, the event has drawn public attention.

In response to the event, the Osun Accord claimed that intentional sabotage rather than structural breakdown was to blame for the damage.

“These acts seem to be part of a deliberate attempt by desperate members of the opposition APC to undermine and discredit the outstanding accomplishments of the current administration ahead of the upcoming governorship race, rather than being routine criminal operations.

The statement continued, “These elements seem determined to destroy the very projects that are transforming communities across the state in order to create a false impression of government failure, having failed to match the Governor’s impressive record of performance.”

The party denounced the suspected acts of sabotage and stated that Osun State residents own the public infrastructure.

They also urged the appropriate authorities to look into the event, identify the perpetrators if criminal activity is proven, and quickly repair the damaged portion of the flyover.
