Kaduna markets company commissions 1,000-seat Buhari Event Hall

The Kaduna State Markets Development and Management Company, KMDMC, has commissioned a new 1,000-seat event hall named after the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the facility as a major addition to the state’s conference and hospitality infrastructure.

The Muhammadu Buhari Hall, located within the Galaxy Mall in Kaduna, was inaugurated on the first anniversary of the former president’s passing.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Uba Sani said his administration remains committed to transforming the state into Nigeria’s leading investment destination through strategic infrastructure development and private sector-led economic growth.

Represented by the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Patience Fakai, the governor said the government is focused on building an economy anchored on innovation, commerce and sustainable development.

He noted that quality infrastructure is essential to creating an enabling environment for businesses, stressing that modern conference centres and event facilities play a critical role in promoting networking, trade, hospitality and investment.

“We know that for businesses to thrive, the right infrastructure must be in place. Events, conferences and trade exhibitions serve as vital engines for networking, hospitality and corporate growth. By actively supporting the development of premium facilities like this, the Kaduna State Government is reinforcing its commitment to creating an enabling environment where the private sector can flourish, innovate and create jobs for our vibrant youth,” he said.

Mr Sani commended the management of KMDMC for delivering the project without government subventions, loans or external funding, describing the achievement as a model of financial discipline and prudent management of public resources.

“What KMDMC has achieved here is nothing short of exemplary. At a time when financial discipline is critical, utilising the internally generated revenue from the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hall to fully finance and construct the Muhammadu Buhari Hall is a masterclass in public sector efficiency,” he said.

Earlier, the Managing Director of KMDMC, Ahmad Haruna, described the inauguration of the facility as a historic milestone for the company and Kaduna State, saying it reflects the organisation’s commitment to strategic planning, financial prudence and sustainable development.

He said naming the hall after the late President Buhari was a deliberate effort to immortalise a leader whose contributions to national development and infrastructure remain significant.

“As we reflect on his monumental legacy, we believe there is no more fitting way to honour him than to name this magnificent hall after him and commission it on the first anniversary of his passing,” Haruna said.

According to him, the Muhammadu Buhari Hall stands as a lasting tribute to the former president’s contributions to Nigeria’s development and his enduring relationship with Kaduna State, where he chose to reside after leaving office.

Mr Haruna recalled that the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hall had for years served as Kaduna’s premier venue for conferences, exhibitions and social events, but said increasing demand for premium event spaces made the construction of another modern facility necessary.

“The Yar’adua Hall became increasingly overstretched as economic activities expanded under business-friendly policies. It became clear that Kaduna needed another world-class event centre to complement the existing facility,” he said.

He explained that the new hall is designed to host conferences, exhibitions, corporate meetings, weddings and other major events, adding that it is equipped to meet international standards.

Mr Haruna disclosed that the project was financed entirely through the company’s internally generated revenue, particularly earnings from the operations of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hall, without any government allocation, loan, partnership or external funding.

“The Muhammadu Buhari Hall is a testament to financial discipline and self-sustainability. We reinvested revenue generated from our operations to build this magnificent edifice. This demonstrates that public institutions can be efficient, productive and financially independent,” he said.

He added that the facility would boost the state’s economy by attracting conferences, exhibitions, business meetings and other large-scale events, while generating revenue to support investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare and innovation.

Mr Haruna expressed appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for creating an enabling environment for the project and commended the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology, as well as the management and staff of KMDMC, for their support and commitment to the successful completion of the project.
