Ogudu Magistrates’ Court Remands Teacher Over Alleged Defilement of Minor

An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a lesson teacher, identified as Michael, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre following allegations of defilement of a 15‑year‑old student in the Ketu area of Lagos State.
The matter was reported at the Ketu Police Station on 13 July 2026, leading to the immediate arrest and detention of the suspect.
According to the survivor’s mother, Mrs. Zainab Musa, some police officers allegedly attempted to frustrate the prosecution by pressuring the family to accept ₦200,000 and withdraw the case.
The Lagos State Police Command, through its spokesperson CSP Abimbola Adebisi, dismissed the allegation as unfounded, insisting that the case was under active investigation and that the suspect would face trial.
“The case is still ongoing, and the suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as he is fit to face justice,” she had said.
Adebisi explained that the case was reported at the Ketu Police Station on July 13, adding that the suspect was arrested and detained the same day for investigation.
According to her, on 15 July, while preparations were underway for arraignment, the suspect reportedly collapsed and was rushed to the Lagos State Emergency Hospital, later transferred to Gbagada General Hospital.
Upon recovery, he was arraigned before the Ogudu Magistrates’ Court and subsequently remanded at Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
The matter has been adjourned to 24 August 2026 for hearing.
Reports indicate that Michael allegedly sexually assaulted the teenager on multiple occasions at the tutorial centre and threatened her to conceal the incidents.
Civil society organisations, including the DOHS Cares Foundation, have called on the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to ensure the suspect does not evade justice.
