A Nigerian man has narrated how he ended up spending over ₦50,000 on a date with a woman he met online, only to allegedly discover afterward that she was married the whole time.
According to him, the two had been chatting for a while before he suggested meeting at his house. She declined, insisting they meet at a public place instead, and a restaurant was settled on.
By the time he arrived for the date, he claimed the woman had already begun ordering food and drinks, and continued piling on more items as the evening went on. Despite the mounting bill, he said he chose not to complain and let the date play out.
By the end of the night, he had spent over ₦50,000. He then booked a Bolt ride for both of them to head to his house only for the woman to reveal, seemingly out of nowhere, that she was married and could not go any further with him.
The man said he was blindsided by the revelation, noting that she had never once mentioned being married throughout their lengthy online conversations.
He further alleged that he had sent her money on multiple occasions prior to their meeting, making the late disclosure sting even more.
His story has since stirred conversation online, adding to a growing list of similar accounts from Nigerians navigating the murky waters of online dating.
