2027: Rivers Assembly candidate dumps NDC for ADP

Hon. Desmond Stephen, a popular grassroots politician and philanthropist from Okrika, has officially resigned from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and defected to the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

Following his defection, Stephen has been named the ADP candidate for the Okrika Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his official resignation letter dated May 25, 2026, Stephen expressed gratitude to the NDC leadership and members for the opportunities and political experience he gained during his time in the party.

He said the decision was made after careful reflection and in line with his commitment to serve Okrika with renewed energy and clarity of purpose.

Stephen, known for his community outreach, youth empowerment programmes and advocacy for local development, noted that ADP’s platform better aligns with his vision for education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic opportunities in Okrika.

His decision to dump the party has drawn wide attention across the constituency, with supporters describing it as a bold step toward more responsive and people-centred representation.
